Off and Running!
Don’t you just love it when I say I’m going to do something and actually get busy making it happen?
When I last checked in a few weeks ago, I told you all that I had finally gotten my writer’s life in working order. Since then, I’ve been making moves, y’all! Mind you, I am still learning the best ways to inform people about my projects, but updating this site and posting things here is a great first step.
ON MEDIUM
Writing for my newly-created publication MY WRITES has been fairly brisk. The news cycle gives me plenty of inspiration, but I am trying not to merely be reactionary and share more of a journalistic approach to the pieces. Some research, connecting some dots, talking longer implications, and such.
If you haven’t already subscribed to the publication, you can do that here. Medium members can read everything for free. Non-subscribers have a monthly limit on free articles (not sure what that number is). But as Medium just hired Colin Kaepernick as a Board member and will be devoting more screen space to articles on race and justice, I consider my $5 monthly membership as an investment. And I hope that MY WRITES catches the eye of his team. Would love to lend my voice to this effort.

Sabrina Vourvoulias, managing editor of Generocity.org, invited me to be a guest columnist on the site’s coverage of Juneteenth commemorations, especially because Philadelphia’s mayor declared it a holiday this year. I have had very mixed feelings about Juneteenth for years, and Sabrina allowed me to air them out for her audience. This is what I said.
